About the artwork
Inspired by the correspondence between Charles Darwin and JD Hooker Director of Kew Gardens in 19th Century. Hooker was a plant explorer and wrote to Charles Darwin from various places around the world, including the Himalayas.
This artwork is made by building up layers using photographs taken by the artist in the glasshouses at Kew. Nix manipulates them with digital tools. First painting with abstracted shapes on the canvas. Then layering hand paper lithographic prints onto the canvas. Subsequently Nix paints further layers with oil and oil glazes as well as pure pigment. The ideas and work of great men still influence us today. The new and old art making materials and tools come together to explore new ways of making art.
Frame is for illustration purposes only - sold unframed. Please discuss with gallery if you'd like it framed as shown
