About the artwork
Inspired by the correspondence between Charles Darwin and JD Hooker Director of Kew Gardens in 19th Century and said to be the best friend of Charles Darwin. The glass houses at Kew in particular inspired this painting. Seeing children listening intently while learning about the plants inspired the title.
Hooker was a plant explorer and wrote to Charles Darwin from various places around the world, including the Himalayas. The ideas and work of these great men still influence us today. The new and old art making materials and tools come together to explore new ways of making art.
